It comes from the most basic of things. House fires don't always originate from overturned candle lights or cooking mishaps.Whatever the cause, or the destruction, what is important is getting out of your home securely - however that's often where the serious work begins.

Fires can cause incredible damage to your home, and because smoke and heat rise one of the most commonly effected areas is your homes roof. In fact, many restoration companies also employee professional to better serve their clients. Those that don't employ one full time will almost always partner with a professional.

There are also many total restoration companies that offer turnkey home repair after a fire. Many of them offering concierge services that will even find you a temporary residence while your home is being put back together.

After a fire, few homeowner think of their roof as the part of their house in most dire need of repair. However, if you leave a door open something will come eventually come in and the same is true for a hole in your roof. When your homes roof is secure and leak free you can begin to focus on repairing the rest of your house.

It's your home and as such you will want to immediately start putting things back to normal. This is typical, but we never recommend trying to do roofing repairs or post fire restoration on a do-it-yourself basis. No matter how handy you are. Restoration follows a specific order of events and it is best left to the professionals. If you feel you need to do something, there are a few things you can do under the direction of a pro.

First, you can take pets to stay with family or friends so they are in a safe, clean environment for the duration of the restoration process.

Your consumables need attention too. Food products should be removed from the home so they don't spoil and become a mess in and of themselves.

Finally, board up the windows if it doesn't interfere with the restoration companies plan for ventilation. Any large windows will need plywood protection as a security precaution.

There are a few things you should steer clear of doing altogether. Smoke damage can be rather detrimental, almost as much as fire damage in some cases. Although your family's clothes, furniture, and other electronics may appear fine, tiny particles of ash and soot from the fire can embed into the cloth. You want to stay away from having your skin come into contact with this and you definitely should not breathe it in.

Every electrical cord, appliance, light fixture, and computer should be inspected by a trained professional. Electronics may appear completely fine, but a small tear or melted cable can cause infinite trouble further down the line. You just went through a fire - you don't want to face another one.

After you've contacted your contractor, visit with your insurance company. They will often send a representative to visit with you on site and will have the necessary training to help guide you thought the process of putting you life back together.

A contractor in fire recovery jobs can help you board up broken windows, for example ones shattered out by firefighters attempting to extinguish the blaze, or holes in the roof created during attempts to put out the fire. The restoration team provides the knowledge and resources necessary to clear ceilings, carpets and rugs, walls, fixtures and accessories, and all of your family's belongings. It's the safest way to recover from a house fire.
