Anyhow, we have already mentioned that this is a team sport that is played on horseback. With its regal bearing and sophisticated vibes, it cannot be appreciated right off the bat that this game is as old as time immemorial. In fact, it is among the oldest known multiplayer sports the whole world over. Well, of course, that is always a deliberate bone of contention, but the fact that its considered as a serious contender is nothing short of extraordinary.

This official body is called the Federation of International Polo. It works to further vamp up the games status and image in the international scale. Among others, it proffers to uphold moral fortitude and far play. Polo is certainly no longer a kingly sport, but its nonetheless still a gentlemanly one.

Of course, given the fact that it has adapted to a great many countries, it has had the need to adapt and acclimatize accordingly. You will be able to see this game acclimatizing to various cultures, communities, and landscapes. Its an extremely popular spectator sport. In point of fact, it is viewable by the public, akin to a blockbuster movies premier night.

Whatever the case, suffice it to say that nowadays, its popular all over the world. There are more than a hundred countries claiming membership to the official sports body, the Federation of International Polo. This sport is played professionally in several countries. For a time, it also took up its berth in the rarefied world of the Olympics, which is no mean feat.

Of course, in this game, horses are the mainstays. Therefore, their safety, comfort, and rights are also kept in the upper echelons of the mind. It is not permitted in official games to carry tools or apparatuses that harm horses, like whips and spurs.

Getting down to the nitty gritty, lets just say that horse polo is played by two contending teams. The aim is to score goals on the opponents side through hitting a particular ball with a long handled mallet. Each team is a composite of four jockeys. Speaking of averages, the game normally lasts between one to two hours, and the game sections are referred to as chukkas.

There are many delineations in this game. Aside from the standard field, it can also be played on an arena. It operates according to similar rules. The glaring difference is that each team is composed of three members, rather than four. Other noteworthy differences are the size and location of the field. First off, it is usually enclosed and played indoors. The area is also smaller, and the field is littered with fine aggregates or compact sand. Because of its relatively limited space, elbowing is pretty much a thing here because there is more maneuvering at play. The ball used is also squishy and inflated, and the mallets usually have larger heads.

What else keeps aspiring players from continuing on with the sport is the perceived danger with it. Well, of course, pretty much anything can be dangerous without the suggested education, safety equipment, and general knowhow. When you have got the basics down pat, though, it is exactly the activity, the speed, and the rush that makes the game exciting and worthwhile, and that which will keep you coming back for more.
