This can either be to destroy an organization or for selfish reasons. However, when good and effective measures are taken, there will think less of such instances as the people will have the truth with them thus there would be no need of spreading the rumors. It is a good way to encourage teamwork.

It is important that the organization identify those that use informal communication negatively and give them the true and right information. When they do that, the chain will be broken. This also encourages the firms to be open with their staff to avoid such negativity. Using a formal channel to communicate and counter the negative information is a start in tackling rumors. They should always be an official communication to the staff.

Informal communication can be dangerous as it can cause unrest and chaos among people. It may also be a source of the riot. Sometimes it can be untrue and without any foundation. This may even cause harm to the person spreading. It may also be a reason for the collapse of an institution. This is because it may have spread to deep that it seems like the truth. The organization may not even have adequate time to resolve it.
