Self Tanners Are A Great Way To Build Color

People are becoming more aware of the threat of skin cancer and the harmful ultraviolet rays that deliver it, thus many are discovering the use of self tanners. As opposed to traditional sun bathing, self tanners are a safe method to deliver a bronzed summer look. The market is currently bursting with different varieties of self tanners, each promising consumers a darker, deeper coloring with no pain involved.

Self tanners all work in the same way, they essentially dye the outer layer of dead skin cells. The chemicals used in self tanners are typically erythrulose and dihydroxyacetone (DHA). The two main ingredients in self tanners are completely harmless, if not a little smelly.

A derivative of sugar, DHA dyes the topmost layer of the skin when applied to it. The dye lasts approximately a week and gradually fades if more solution isn't applied. Perspiring, exfoliating, and showering will exacerbate the loss of the tanning solution. Fortunately, self tanners can be reapplied as often as necessary in order to maintain color or increase the intensity of the bronzer.

Self tanners come in different forms, each uniquely suited to the needs of the consumer. These products come in sprays, foams, gels, lotions, towelettes and liquids. Considering that people are different and skin types vary greatly, self tanners come in a variety of applications and products. It is important to experiment. One can do so without fear because the color comes right off by doing several baking soda baths.

Self tanners are very affordable these days. A bottle of lotion, that builds a gradual tan as you moisturize, can cost as little as four dollars . A gel or spray that lays down a foundation of color immediately can start at eight or nine dollars. These products can be acquired in the cosmetics section of a local pharmacy or supermarket.

There are more expensive products by higher end labels. Some of these applications can cost as much as one hundred dollars a bottle depending on brand and location. For many consumers the price is worth the quality and the lowered risk of exposure to harmful U. V. Rays. Some consumers do not wish to apply these products at home or even themselves. There are many who visit tanning and beauty salons where a spray tan is applied to their body by a professional or by a standing booth.

There are two differences between having a professional apply the tanning spray and the automatic jets of the booth. A professional can apply the spray tan evenly but you must wear a bathing suit or undergarments which will leave tan lines. The privacy of the booth will allow for a full disrobe but cannot ensure even and full coverage.

Self tanners are a great investment to make with little or no risk involved. Individuals should always do a sensitivity check on a small patch of skin before continuing use, as some may have unwanted reactions to the product. Overall, avoiding the sun's harmful rays and getting to do the applications at home is very convenient and often worth the price. Picking out your favorite self tanners may take some time and experimentation, patience and willingness is key.
