Jamaican Non Profit Organizations Making A Difference

They exist in a world that seems to be overrun by income seeking business entities but yet still they have an undeniable impact on society. These little celebrated entities are focused on serving the society's needs rather than on generating cash. Jamaican non profit organizations belong to this small group of entities and are playing their part in the creation of a better world.

Many of the charitable organizations in Jamaica are branches of international bodies. This gives the local body a trustworthy reputation. It also allows for support to reach the island's poor and needy easily. International agencies attract greater funding and as such they have more resources. This makes aid distribution easier because international bodies typically have agreements with the government and their names usually demand more respect than local ones.

The connection with international partners is established when international entities such as Food For The Poor express an interest in establishing one or more branches in Jamaica. They work with the island's government to ensure that the vision of Jamaican branches becomes a reality. Team members who operate within these local bodies are identified as a cooperative effort between the international entity and the Jamaican government.

Jamaica also has charitable entities that were founded on the island. This means that their headquarters would be on the island. Many of them are established by Jamaicans who recognize one or more needs and decide to act on them. They are then able to garner support from local and international partners.

Other non profit groups are created by businesses. They are then used to conduct the charitable business of the businesses. In doing this, Jamaica's corporate entities get to fulfill their mandate to give back to the society. Businesses operating within the telecommunications, tourism and banking sectors are usually the ones that establish these departments.

Despite the manner in which they were established, these charitable bodies focus on improving the lives of people in Jamaica and the world. They contribute in areas such as health, education, sports and housing. This means they build houses to shelter the homeless, provide warm meals and groceries to the needy and donate medical and school equipment to state agencies.

Fund-raising is usually among the main activities within these entities. The fundraisers are used to generate much needed resources and money to support the work of the charities. Concerts, charity dinners and races are usually the preferred forms of fundraisers. Through these fundraisers regular Jamaicans, famous citizens and even members of the international community are encouraged to give to the worthy causes being promoted by charities.

The work carried out by these organizations has a significant impact on Jamaicans and the world. They fill a void that a profit focused world creates. So many needy and underprivileged groups are able to benefit from their contributions that it is difficult to imagine what the island would be like without them.
