At one of the networking events in PDX, James Majanga was asked to comment on a blog journal titled, "Is Twitter a waste of time for small business?" The original poster had concluded that it was, but James made a brilliant point that if your audience is on twitter, it isn't a waste of time. As someone who is a small business owner, as well as focusing on teaching social media to other people, I thought I'd put my own response to that question, but frame it within the wider context of sites outside of twitter. Focus on one channel. You can choose one social media website that best suits your business and be connected through it, as managing with multiple sites can be stressful. Choosing the suitable socializing page depends on your SMM goals and strategy. It is also important to perform a regular Audit. Conduct social media pages audit at regularly. Update your cover photos, profile page pictures, and company information frequently.

In addition, you need to determine the necessity of E-commerce and shopping in the near future, Collaboration portals to suit your specific needs: chat messenger, task manager, calendar, contacts and document sharing facility. What type of process-centric business application would adapt well to your unique business needs: sales, billing and customer support services.
