Occupational therapy, otherwise shortened as OT, can simply be described as the use of evaluations, assessments as well as treatments to recover, maintain, improve or develop the daily living standards of people with various impairments. It also aims at improving the working skills of individuals living with certain disorders such as physical, cognitive, mental and other disorders. It therefore plays an integral role in shaping the lives of impaired individuals. OT is thereby very salient.

The key objective is to guarantee that persons adjust unfavorable circumstances and they alter errands in support of the patients. The practice is client centered and intends to advance the intellectual and physical capacity of a person to execute responsibilities and accomplish objectives in their everyday lives. Occupational therapy further aims to reduce the various environmental obstacles or barriers which limit the child participation in affairs of family, learning as well as other community-related activities. In addition to that, the program helps in the identification of needed assistive technological supports or devices.

Practitioners better the situation for clients by ensuring they adjust to environments, designing the tasks, showing them the necessary techniques, communicating to the involved parties so as to enable their participation and involvement in daily activities that are of meaning to the client in rehabilitation. Therapist also ensure their clients grow on other crucial matters such as making homes, tending to oneself, leisure involvement, socializing, vocation, among others.

Alongside that, occupational therapy strives to enhance the development of social skills as well as leisure or recreational activities in the schooling environment. OT further aims at assisting with issues like school mobility, accommodations, equipment, recommending adaptations, alongside a host of other requisite functions.

The process is well rounded process that integrates all interests of the impaired persons, mostly children. Therapists develop their clients holistically so they can face their challenges and outlive them by participating in viable engagements and activities.
