If you are the owner of a boat, you may need it relocating. A small motor boat or dinghy can be put onto a trailer and towed which is a simple process. Larger vessels will have to be moved by a professional team and you will need to look for a company for boat transport and a little research should be done.

Any boat can be moved by theses specialist firms and it is essential that you use a reputable team. Small speed boats can be towed by the firm to an address that you have given by one of their vehicles. A larger fishing boat or luxury yacht will need to be hoisted using special lifting gear on to a lorry before being driven to its new destination.

The prices charged by the transport companies will depend on where the vessel has to be taken and its size and weight. Short interstate road journeys will be a fairly quick process and reasonably inexpensive. Moving a boat over very long distances or to another country will take a long time and will cost a lot of money.

When you have elected to relocate a vessel, you will need to find a company to handle all aspects of the move. There are many telephone numbers in area phone books and you will find specialists that advertise in boating enthusiast magazines. Searching the web can also produce some good results and you can browse through a large number of companies.

When you initially make contact with a company to handle the transportation, you will have to give them some important details. You will need the delivery and pick up addresses and the specifications of the vessel. The firm can then give you their price to do the job and wait for your approval. It is worth making enquiries with a few companies for price estimates so that you can compare quotes.

Many of the web sites for the transportation companies are able to issue an online quote if you submit the details on their web page. You need to carefully enter the correct information so that an accurate price is quoted. A lot of web sites will also have a section featuring feedback from clients and you should read through theses to give you an idea of the service you will receive.

Most firms will offer additional service such as storage and transportation of small crafts. If your vessel has to go into storage they will be able to arrange a secure location where it will be kept until it is due for delivery. When moving overseas, boats will often need to be held in warehouses for a period of time until they are ready for the road journey to the new address.

You should always do a few checks on the transport company to make sure they are insured and licensed. All of the firms will have some insurance which will be sufficient to cover most vessels but it can be worth checking beforehand. It is also very important to have someone at the final delivery address to check the vessel for any damage before signing the paperwork.
