Information On Cleveland Drywall Manufacturers

There are several other names for drywall including gypsum board, plasterboard, and wallboard. It is a panel produced from gypsum plaster placed between two thick layers of paper sheet. The production of this material was motivated by the view that it was a speedier option to conventional plaster and lath. Today, it is produced and marketed by several companies globally. Cleveland drywall manufacturers are some of the producers of high quality products on the market.

The first company that produced plasterboard came into existence in 1888 and was incorporated in Rochester, Kent. The predecessor of the plasterboard was called a Sackett board and was invented by Fred Kane and Augustine Sackett in 1894. Since its invention, plasterboard has undergone a lot of evolution that has seen it being refined to the fine product that it is today.

The US Gypsum Corporation bought out Sackect Plaster Board Company in 1910. They produced another commodity called Sheetrock in 1917. Sheetrock was easier to install and its fire resistance capability is very high. The invention of air entrainment technology resulted in plasterboards becoming lighter and less brittle. Joint treatment treatments and materials also underwent further evolution.

Plasterboard has two paper layers with gypsum plaster placed between them. Production involves heating raw gypsum before it is rehydrated to make the hemihydrate. To attain specific qualities, the plaster is mixed with other substances and fiber. Among the materials added are wax emulsions, EDTA, fine gypsum crystals, plasticizers, foaming agents, retarder, and various additives.

Each material added into the gypsum serves a specific function in the mixture and the final product. For instance, wax emulsion lowers water absorption, starch serves as a retarder, fine crystals of gypsum act as accelerator, and various additives raise fire resistance and decrease mildew. The wet mixture is then sandwiched between two fiberglass mats or heavy sheets of paper. The sandwich is dried in a drying chamber so that it becomes hard enough to be used for building.

Homes find many uses for drywalls. First, they are used in the reduction of sound transmission from outside and between rooms. Using them for soundproofing requires many layers of plasterboard to be glued together. Manufacturers have also been able to design and produce special drywalls that can be used specifically for soundproofing. Certain construction details may need to be followed when using drywall to achieve soundproofing. For instance, there may be need for insulation, use of steel studs, wider stud spacing, and double studding among others.

The materials wallboards are manufactured from make them very sensitive to water. They are destroyed when they come in contact with it. They soften upon contact with water and when immersed for long, they turn into a gooey paste. Mold starts to grow when there is moisture. Mold growth is encouraged because additives and paper facings added into the plasterboard provides a good source of food.

Failure to recycle used plasterboards has made its disposal a big challenge. In fact, it is forbidden to dispose the board in some landfill sites. However, some companies take back used drywalls so that they can make them into new boards.
