The Freedom of Information Act in 1966 has made most of the nation's records accessible to the public. One of the records that are made accessible to the public is the Texas background check. If the individual in question is married, the name of the spouse is indicated on the record.

The document can be retrieved for free by going to the office of the county clerk or through Texas' office of the Vital Records Section in the Department of Public Safety. The one who conducts a background check on an individual has to fill out a request form stating the reason for the retrieval of the record. A $10 fee will be required for each search conducted by the one requesting for the information. With the power of the internet, one can now search for background records even without leaving the house.

Online employment background check has made the search for these records easier. This tool has helped employers save time in the retrieval of the criminal history of an employee or an applicant. With only a few clicks, the information is displayed on the monitor. This helps the employers decide faster whether to accept the applicant based on the results found. There are some websites that offer to search for the records for a reasonable fee.
