With the increase in health consciousness among people, more and more people are opting for walking as a simple yet effective exercise technique. Walking regularly not only keeps the body fit and strong but also helps to beat the mental pressure that gets accumulated as a result of hectic work schedule. However, all the benefits of walking can go in vain if not commenced by following the correct procedures. What matters the most in walking is the method in which you are walking, which in turn mostly depends on what you adorn on your feet.

Since walking, running and sport shoes have similar kinds of appearance, people often go by the looks. However, this is an absolutely wrong method of selection and should be avoided at every instance. Rather than ordering at an online shoe store, you should always test a walking shoe for its fit, material and technology used before investing in one. This is because fit is one such criterion that should be prioritized the most when selecting a walking shoe.

The shape of your feet Closely analyze the shape of your feet before you opt for any specific shoe. Shoes which are too tapering at the toe region may not turn out to be ideal for those with a flat, heavy and broad toe. Other than that, always try to avoid shoes which require longer break-in time or have a tendency to collapse and fall over your toe while walking. Collapsing shoes constantly rub the skin while walking and makes it unimaginably difficult and painful for the user to walk. Continuous rubbing of skin against the shoe may also lead to emergence of feet problems like blister, callous and hammertoes.

Consider fit Fitting is one of the most important criterion for choosing a walking shoe. Since every shoe may not fit your feet properly, try to look out for the one that will let you feel comfortable and completely natural while walking. You should never force your feet to adjust in a shoe that doesn't seem to have enough space to house your feet or toe comfortably and easily.

Try to avoid shoes which have a tendency to collapse over your toes while walking. This is because, shoes which rub constantly against your toe or nails will eventually make you go through feet problems like blisters, callouses and hammertoes.

A proper fit and comfortable wear will not only let you walk faster and properly but will also keep you miles away from aggravated foot problems like callouses, hammertoes, blisters and bunions.

Flexibility Flexibility of the shoe is yet another criterion that you must prioritize in a walking shoe. Walking shoes must be extremely flexible, to allow the feet adjust itself to the nature of the terrain while walking. Since our feet roll and bend from the toes to the heels while walking, it is better to opt for shoes which are provided with an additional support at the heels, like a roll bar. The roll bar is situated in the mid-sole and helps to stabilize the feet while walking and flexing.

Material Ideally, you should opt for breathable fabrics like mesh and synthetic if you want to keep your feet dry and sweat-free even while walking. However, you can also opt for leather-made walking shoes, if you feel comfortable in them.
