Misconception About Washington DC Low Income Housing

The federal government has made a lot of effort in ensuring that its citizens get a roof over their head. Therefore, there are a lot of affordable residence projects cropping up in most states. Such projects have significantly enabled many people to get shelter for their families. However, there are several misconceptions surrounding this type of housing. Here are a few misconceptions about Washington DC low income housing to think through.

Affordable residences tend to increase crime. There exist no specific studies that show that these types of homes have the highest crime rate. Most of these neighborhoods encourage cohesion and have programs to ensure that there are stability and cooperation in riding criminal activities within them. Furthermore, every family seeks what every typical family would find despite where they reside.

Low - income properties tend to lower the value of properties within their location. The fact that these sort of projects attract a lot of low-income people does not mean it will end up lowering property value. Wise investors would see the need for setting up public amenities. So, there are chances of a drastic increase in property value within a brief period.

Cheap properties are in bad areas. Most of the lands that the federal government tends to build this sort of residences are prime land close to amenities and transportation. Furthermore, the government cannot consider investing in places that do not have high chances of attracting renters. So, they would choose a place where would attract a lot of renters due to convenience and access to different services.

Cheap properties are the last resort for many renters. It is true that many people use them to free up their expenses and build their properties. So they end up relocating from the projects soon. Even so, there are those who prefer living in these neighborhoods since they can easily cater to their needs despite having limited incomes.

The projects target people with color. Records indicate that there are many African Americans residing in this sort of neighborhood. Even so, you will find other races living within them with peaceful coexistence. The bottom line is. The government does not limit the projects to people with color but are open to anyone. However, it is by coincidence that African Americans tend to fall in the gap of people with low income.

Affordable houses are a burden to municipalities and taxpayers. Everyone pays tax. Then there are no chances that these projects end up being a burden to specific taxpayers or municipalities. Furthermore, there exist clear guidelines on rent payment, and most people preferred for the project have employment.

The houses do not offer the kind of services that one would expect. Good investors usually provide incentives that would attract clients even in real estate. So, there are fewer chances that the government would make something that is way below the standards of their citizens. For a fact, these housings tend to provide utilities at a subsidized fee due to governmental input.
