If possible, the lambs should be of a relatively same size and age.

The amount of land and number of animals should be directly proportional. Providing more land gets rid of the need of treating illnesses and worms. Abundance of land offers enough space for sheep to move around without restriction.

Multiple watering points should be established on the farm for easy access. Ensuring that the animals have water all the time is important. To supplement their diet, one should provide loose minerals. It is not ideal to feed the animals with all-stock minerals. Also, any breed of sheep should never be fed on copper. The metal has detrimental effects on these animals.

It is vital to protect the animals from inclement weather and night hours by constructing good sheds for them. The shed ought to have three walls and a waterproof roof. It is advisable to provide 16 square feet of space or more for each sheep in the shelter. In case of really low temperatures, the open side of the pen can be covered to retain heat and aid to keep the animals warm.

One of the qualities that make katahdins so attractive is that they are very hardy animals. They are able to resist internal and external parasites quite well. However, it is important to provide dewormers after every once in a while. There are certain signs of presence of worms and other parasites that one should always look out for.
