Adjusting The Handlebars Of A Threaded And Thread Less Bicycles

Common problem encountered when riding a bicycle is that it is uncomfortable during the whole ride because the position of handles are not adjusted in an angle that would promote a posture that is comfortable enough. When a bagger handlebars is way lower than it is supposed to be, that is when the discomfort takes place. But there is an easy procedure on how that can be handled, people no longer has to be afraid of fixing it on their own because it is not that hard to accomplish.

To start off, riders must know whether the current handlebars are threaded or thread less because these two has different means of adjusting procedures. For thread less types, begin with finding the spacers below and above the handlebar stem. If there are no spacers seen then most likely it is a threaded type.

To start adjusting the thread less one, begin by loosening up all the screws found at back parts of handlebars. This are all at the back and may commonly be called as pinch bolts as well. Either hex key or Allen wrench may be used on the process so long as it fits the screws so it can be removed. After unscrewing everything, proceed to removing of top cap.

Then go ahead and insert the hex key in the bolt which is found on top then start turning it on counterclockwise means of direction. Slide off the spacers then set all bolts away. Then, remove the handlebars off and set that one aside too.

Add more spacers on the stem of the bike to position it way higher than it was before. After adding enough of it and feeling like the height is enough to feel comfortable when riding, everything can be installed back to the bicycle like it normally was. Make sure to tighten the grip of all bolts to prevent unnecessary motions that may cause unbalancing when taking a ride.

Threaded types has longer handlebar stems compared to the other one. It is often fitted to the bike frame and spacers are not found in it. This has screw on the backside of it or it can be plastic rings attached to the bottom and top areas of handlebar stem.

Before adjusting it, make sure to take note of the measurement from the top part of stem to the bike frame. This is to allow an easier way of reverting to the actual measurement. This would only be used once proven that the adjustment done was not comfortable enough.

Then proceed to loosening of the screw on top with still an Allen wrench. Do this in a counterclockwise motion about four to five times till it completely loosens up. Move it freely whether up or down depends on how high or low a person wants the handlebars should be.

Look for markings when adjusting its height because it usually is the basis of how a handlebar could only go. Adjusting it way higher than that can lead to danger once riding it. After all are set, finish everything by tightening all the screws.
