The Sun Will Not Shop For The Best Sunless Tanner For You Starts With The Skin

It seems quite laughable to us now when we look back on the 1980s and remember how so many of us were coating ourselves in baby oil, cooking grease, and anything else we could baste ourselves with for sunbathing. We have a whole new perspective on the dangers associated with sun exposure these days. We now know that we must protect our skin, and the importance of choosing the best sunless tanner is not lost on us.

Skin tone certainly dictates to a great extent what choices one might make. When one already has a darker tone, they are more likely to go for creams, gels, and lotions rather than a tanning bed. For them, it is all about protecting and moisturizing, as well as keeping their skin tone even, rather than obtaining a particular color or complexion which they may already possess.

Anyone who spends a great deal of time outside, male or female, should consider tanning lotions and oils as a means of protecting their skin from the sun, as well as keeping it hydrated. This is important not only for the sun, but the wind can take a tole on the hydration of the skin as well. Chapped cheeks, lips, and hands often can be prevented with the proper suntan lotions, not to mention a UV-protecting lip balm.

In addition to creams and gels, there are also spray-on solutions which are very popular with many women due to the even coverage provided by the sprayer. The downside of all these products, however, appears to be the resulting color coming out an orange or burnt umber rather than looking like a natural tan. It helps when one thoroughly exfoliates their skin prior to applying the tanning solution, as this allows the skin to absorb the product evenly.

There is some controversy regarding the safety of indoor tanning, due in large part to the perception that it is a safe alternative. The only thing one needs to do is take a close look at women and men who have been under the tanning bed lights for many years, and see how they have accelerated their aging. Tanning beds utilize the same rays as the sun, and therefore it can be just as dangerous.

One does have more control over the degree and length of time they are exposed to this ultraviolet light. There are those who go too far with it, but it is a self-limiting habit when they learn just how quickly and how severely a harsh burn can occur. For some, falling asleep in a tanning bed is a greater risk than falling asleep on the beach, and this is a serious safety issue since tanning beds literally cook you more quickly than the sun.

Newer beds also come with an alarm, or at least a loud bell ring when the fifteen minutes are up. This bell can be turned off, but many of the beds cannot be set to stay on for longer than 15 or 30 minutes at a time. Even so, businesses which still allow a tanning bed on site are usually very watchful of how long their client has been inside the tanning room.

With coconut oil being all the rage these days, it is important to point out that there is coconut oil tanning products on the market. This allows for the deep hydration provided by coconut oil along with the skin-protecting benefits of a bronzer. So long as one is not allergic to coconut, this is a highly recommended product.
