There are numerous cosmetic procedures that various undergo for various reasons. The most common one being lipo, which is short form for liposuction. This procedure involves the suction of fat from various parts of the body like the neck, calves, buttocks, thighs as well as the arms. An instrument called a cannula is inserted beneath the skin and from there high pressure is applied and then the fat is sucked out while the patient is under an anesthetic.

Liposuction is usually practiced by people who wish to remove excess amount of fat from various regions of their bodies. It may be important to note that it is not a mechanism used for weight loss but rather seen as more of a cosmetic thing. In addition, it gets rid of fat and not sketch marks, dimples or cellulite. It is a procedure that is aimed at improving the overall contour of the body. In order for the procedure to be successful and have a lasting effect, one is usually advised to lead a healthy lifestyle so as to prevent the re-growth of fat cells.

Before undergoing such a procedure, it is important for one to first comprehend certain facts. For one, it is not a treatment for obesity. Meaning that, one should not undergo it with the intention of losing weight. As earlier stated, this is a procedure aimed at only removing fat and improving body contour. In addition to this, it should be done if one has tried other more natural methods of burning fat such as dieting or exercising and has not attained the desired results.

There are various risks or side effects that are usually involved. As in any other surgery, you would expect a lot of bleeding and probably run a risk of infection. For one, there can be bruising. The healing process is not as speedy as one could expect and the bruising could last a couple of months. One would also experience some nausea but would gradually wear off after some days.

Inflammation is yet another side effect witnessed in a number of patients. This usually occurs in the treated regions and in serious cases the effect is prolonged for six months. Since the procedure involves making incisions, fluid may start oozing from these parts. Instead of inflammation, other patients complain of numbness but this only lasts for a few weeks.

In addition, some patients also experienced some skin sensitivity issues but these were mostly witnessed from people with allergic reactions. Medical practitioners state that this reaction could be cause by the medicine used or some of the materials used during the procedure. Additionally, the cannula instrument is also stated to trigger some of the skin reactions due to the vibrations that occur during sucking.

Lastly, it may also be the cause for thrombophlebitis. This is a situation where there is formation of blood clots in a vein. This in turn causes inflammation of the vein. This usually occurs when the treated area is the region around the thighs or knees.

The benefits of liposuction overweigh the side effects. However, before undergoing the medical procedure make sure that you have had a proper discussion about the stakes involved.
