When it comes to acquiring a pet or service dog, adoption is generally the best option. While this is the case, it can often be rare to find popular breeds. For example, those searching for puppies are more likely to see blue pitbull puppies for sale rather than awaiting adoption. In fact, pure bred and popular mix-breed puppies are still mostly purchased from breeders or pet stores.

When acquiring a new pet, it is important to meet and spend time with the animal before adoption or purchase. In doing so, the new owner and pet can determine whether or not there is an attraction and potential lasting bond. Another area of concern is the current ban on dogs referred to as bully breeds. These breeds include pit bulls, rottweilers, dobermans, shepherds and others.

One of the best options for those interested in obtaining a pitbull is that of the Yankee Terrier, also known as the American Pit Bull Terrier. For, while the breed often gets a bad rap, these dogs were originally created for farmers and ranchers. During that time, these dogs were used primarily for companionship and protection along with catching and herding livestock.

While size and weight can vary within the pitbull breed, most often these dogs weigh between thirty to seventy pounds when grown. As with weight, height can often vary over the years. Although, the breed is also one in which most dogs are naturally height and weight proportionate unless overfed with a lack of exercise.

Those seeking a dog of this breed need take note that these animals are powerful, muscular and stocky. As such, many owners find it next to impossible to train these breeds on a leash, especially once full grown. In fact, the risk of being pulled down and injured while trying to do so is often much higher with this breed than others.

Coats in this breed are often glossy, smooth and stiff. Whereas, there are some pit mixed breeds which boasts heavier fur and longer hair than others. To keep the breed smelling clean and fresh, it is essential to bathe the dog with shampoo or wet wipes on a regular basis.

There are many different colors which can be found in these animals. Brindle is most likely the most rare coloring within the breed. The color provides a combination of colors past down from parents. In most cases, brindle coloring is of a brown black nature with lighter stripes flowing throughout the coat.

All dogs have the potential to have behavioral problems. Some pitbulls get a bad rap due to the media always reporting incidents with pitbulls versus other breeds. The truth is that the behavior of any domestic animal often relates to the manner in which the animal was raised whether that behavior be good, or bad. Still, before adopting a pitbull or other dog of a bully breed, it is important to inquire about any past or present abuse or behavioral issues.
