Parents find themselves in need of a private tutor to help their kids in school work. Many would simply go to the tutor finder website and search for private tutors. This however, is not the right approach, as you have to identify the different types of tutors available. You have to be very particular about the tutor according to the needs that your child has.

Pre-k tutors tutor children aged between 4 and 5 years ready to start kindergarten. They usually encourage children to read and love learning. They teach patience as a virtue as they make them listen to stories. Acting out a story or using puppets is one tactic they use to engage children in storytelling. In addition, they teach the alphabet and basic phonic skills, as the goal is to improve comprehension and vocabulary.

Elementary tutors usually tutor elementary aged kids who find it difficult to learn and get through standardized tests. The elementary grades mainly form the basis for the middle and high school levels. They help in a range of subjects like math, science, social studies and even music.

For middle and high school kids, general tutors are usually called upon. They usually help them prepare for upper level school applications. As children advance from middle to high level schools, the intensity of tutoring increases. They will offer support in a broad number of subjects to help them finish their schoolwork and pass their tests.

Special education tutors are especially trained to help kids with special needs. They usually have degrees in special education and offer specialized services to children with a range of conditions. Children may suffer from conditions like autism, dyslexia, speech and language issues and other special needs. In addition, they are not limited to children as they can work with children of ages and abilities.

Tutors who specialize in a particular subject are called specialty subject tutors. They are especially helpful to high schoolers with problems in a particular subject. If ones dream is to become a doctor, they can be helped with a tutor trained in biology and help them get to their dream collages. They are particularly useful for high schoolers and those who have joined collage recently.

If you need your child to have some practice in exams before a major examination, test prep tutors are the best match. They provide support by offering preparation exams usually similar to main exams. They may be used by high schoolers in order to pass their college entrance exams and even preschoolers to prepare them for admission tests to gifted and talented programs or specialized schools.

The homework helper is just some who will help your kid get by daily homework challenges. Here you do not need intensive tutoring as you can even hire older teens. It is just basic homework assistance and they only supervise and provide help where necessary. This will especially help middle school children, as they will be able to focus more and take homework seriously. Therefore, the next time one wants to hire a tutor, you might want to go over the different types of tutors available and pick the most relevant one.
