What To Know About Artificial Turf

Nowadays, there is a special surface that can be installed and designed to appear like grass. Artificial turf, which may also be known as synthetic, is the term used to describe a product that is produced using synthetic fibers. Usually this is seen in sports arenas that require a grass field. It can be installed at residential properties or commercial buildings as it requires little to no maintenance.

Turf comes in many types. The differences exist in color, size of grass, maintenance that is required and installation technique. Most turf is made to look and function like a specific type of natural grass.

The surface is often applied because of its resistance to heavy use. Furthermore, it does not need irrigation systems or frequent trimming, which is often the case for real grass. Stadiums that have a dome roof or some other similar covering rely on this kind of turf because there is usually not enough consistent sunlight in order for grass to naturally grow all across a field. Synthetic turf became popularized during the second portion of the twentieth century, specifically following its use in the Astrodome design.

The surface is ideal for many applications. It is often seen at vacation homes, as owners of the property might not have the ability to handle the general upkeep required of a lawn but want the property to look good still. Furthermore, it may be added by homeowners who are elderly or immobile and cannot maintain the landscaping on their own. The product is used for rooftop gardens and might also be applied around an outdoor pool.

Although there are many perks to using this product, there are also some potential downsides to be aware of. This surface is known for being durable, but it still has a certain life span and might need to be replaced at some point. It does not require very much maintenance, such as trimming and watering, but it needs to be cleaned. Some versions will need infills, such as granulated rubber or silicone sand. These kinds of materials may leech into the water tables.

Disinfection is key when it comes to this surface. The process should be done on a regular basis to guarantee that active pathogens are not present. When there has been friction between turf and skin, serious burns and abrasions can be the result. Additionally, this surface attracts more heat than normal grass when exposed to direct sun.

This might be installed by professionals or homeowners, when used for a personal property. In most cases, the product is laid down in squares or rows on a flattened surface. Weed barriers are usually used to keep weeds from growing around or under the surface. Typically the product is secured to the ground using landscaping nails every few feet. Prices and quality of this surface will vary considerably and depend on numerous factors.

Usually this is seen in settings for sports, especially: field hockey, tennis, American football and baseball. It is sometimes installed in certain areas at the airport. Furthermore, landscapers tend to use this because of its inexpensive price tag and low-maintenance requirements.
