Female midlife crisis is confusing time when women realize that half of their life is gone. The triggers include the death of a parent, children leaving home, menopause, underemployment or unemployment as well as the realization that you hate your current career and have no alternative. Most people assess their achievements by considering their childhood dreams.

The response and symptoms in each person varies.

Most women will enter the phase between the ages of 40 and 60. During this age, some of the normal experiences that might be confused with age related turmoil include death of a spouse, need for more money, challenges at work or even the loss of employment. The unstable period lasts 2-5 years.

A lot of regret and berating results from relationship choices, career options, aging or death of parents, the presence or absence of children and a changing appearance due to age. Women begin to criticize their roles and decisions in the past. They want to adapt a different lifestyle or path in life. Men on the other hand are likely to get sporty and even buy expensive sport cars. Everything becomes emotionally driven.

Time seems to move very fast at the age of 40-60. This is when a woman reflects backwards and realizes the lost opportunities in childhood or youth. She fears that more successful friends and colleagues will humiliate her. There is a strong desire to do the things of youth despite advancement in age.

A lady desires to spend most of the time in solitude or with a specific group. Some of the behaviors that may be exhibited include alcohol and drug abuse and acquisition of unusual stuff like jewelry, tattoos, piercing, gadgets and clothing, among other lifestyle related materials. Doing anything wrong causes unusually strong remorse. The lady is overly concerned about her appearance. She is likely to turn to youthful clothing to cover for it.

It is common to see women engaging with younger men and strangers. They are in search of professional, sexual and parental identity. Those with children will encourage them to seriously pursue education, arts and sports. Mental preparedness is required to avoid psychological damage. Regrets and personal criticism take a lot of energy and thoughts.

During female midlife crisis you are advised to seek the assistance of a therapist or talk to a trusted friend. Enjoy proper diet and exercise regular. Consider this as an eye opener to new opportunities and act boldly. Do not allow the feeling to overwhelm you.
