Would it surprise you to know that Bill de Blasio is tied in to the world of fashion? Well don't be surprised. The new mayor's friendship with Gabrielle Fialkoff spans many years.

The mayor and Fialkoff have known each other for many years, which is why he turned to someone in the fashion and jewelry world to handle this role. A leading fashion publication had the chance to interview Fialkoff and brings us more details about the planning that went into the gala.

As a mayor whose aim is to be a man of the people and cater to all groups, she created and chaired an event that was all-inclusive in the same regard. One that accurately reflects his vision for the future of the city.

This all happened on New Year's Day just a few weeks ago. In a refreshing twist to the exclusive nature of recent inaugurations, everyone in the city had an equal opportunity to gain access to the City Hall event.

Four days later, another event took place at his Gracie Mansion home. This was a ticketed open house event that was available to all New York residents and over 7,000 of them ended up attending the sold out event.

While Gabrielle is firmly rooted in the fashion world, she has historical roots in politics, having raised funds in the past. Their history spans a couple of decades as a result, including some support during his run for city council in 2001.

She is now returning to her roots in this regard, and it wouldn't be surprising to see her involved in other events relating to the mayor.

This was a great experience for Haskell's President and COO, as she had the opportunity to help a longtime friend plan a big event portraying a vision that she genuinely believes in.

It seems like New Yorkers agree too. The social media world was abuzz with praise about the unique opportunity to see everything in person.
