Diverse Alternatives To Achieve Good Tanning

Many people enjoy looking healthy and fit. This is often obtained by a good tan, which can be reached in a number of ways. This may be at a tanning salon, exposure to the sun, or by using self-help products.

When in direct sunlight, you are exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays. This can cause considerable skin damage, including a very bad sunburn. This not only ages the skin, but also can cause serious physical problems, including pain, severe headaches, and other complications.

There are a number of different skin types which react differently to the sun's rays. These are classified into six different categories. However, regardless of the type, the rays can penetrate the skin and damage the cells located below even leading to cancer.

Types are defined as to the degree of pigmentation, with more melanin in the darker skin. They are listed as Type One, pale white, which will always burn, never tanning. Two, white, will tan very little and burn easily. Three, white, tans easily and burns very little. Four, light brown or olive, burns little and tans easily. Five, brown, tans easily and dark, seldom burning. Six, black or dark brown, always tans and seldom burns.

Some people feel that going to a tanning salon to get a 'base tan' prior to taking a vacation will help prevent skin damage as well as encourage a good tan and help prevent sunburn. However, this has proved to be a false assumption. It has been shown that repeated exposure to UV radiation, regardless of the source will increase the risks of premature aging or other skin damage.

There are a number of options available to gain a tan without sun exposure. These include products in the form of tanning salons, oils, lotions, and sprays. There are also sunless tanning pills available, but the medical profession does not recommend these as they can harm the liver and the eye retina.

Sunscreen products should be chosen very carefully. The proper ones will limit the exposure to the sun, thus preventing early wrinkling or damage. These are available in chemical and physical forms.

The physical sunscreen will block, reflect, scatter, and absorb these dangerous rays. The chemical sunscreen protects by absorbing the sun rays. The better ones have two ingredients. These will protect from both ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B. When making a purchase, it is important to read the labels carefully, making sure the product contains high SPFs.

Whether using a tanning bed, self tanner, spray-tan booth or other method to achieve to the desired look, there is no doubt that a good tan can change your body's overall appearance. It can disguise blemishes, define the muscles and even make you look slimmer. This is especially effective for people who live in climates with little sunlight, or who have to spend a great deal of their time working indoors.
