Hints When Changing Foam For Cushions

It is important to take the correct measurements to ensure that you order the right foam for cushions. This process requires a number of tools including a pen or pencil, a paper or writing pad and a tape measure. A slight variation is effected between measurements taken and the size ordered. This ensures that the cushion fits well without being too tight or loose.

Before any measurements can be taken, the cover is emptied off damaged or old foam. A flat surface is used when taking measurements, and they are from the middle of any length. Accurate figures represent the distance between one seam and the other on the length and width of the cover. Tight corners and outside edges affect measurements and they should be avoided.

Cushions are manufactured in different sizes and shapes. The sizes are measured at the middle and through a straight line. Adjustments are made on all measurements given to ease the process of fitting. This will ensure that the covers are neither too loose nor too tight because it affects the appearance of the sitting area.

It is important to consider the kind of cushion you are ordering. This consideration guides the process of recording measurements. While figures for the thickness require adjustment, those taken for the length and width should be maintained. The polyester fiber filling that is added on foams necessitates addition of a few inches. The adjustments should be passed on with the figures given to the manufacturer.

The adjustment of the cushion without a polyester fiber lining is done by a fraction of a quarter. This means that, if the length is five and a quarter inch, it is reduced to five inches. For a length of five and three quarters of an inch, it is rounded off to six inches. The adjustments are necessary to provide a cover that perfectly fits the cushion without leaving loose and unfilled areas or being too tight to the point of distortion. Adjustments should be communicated to the producer.

Measurements for fiber wrapped form are different because their rounding off is done to the nearest half inch instead of quarter an inch as happens with the other case. The measurements are passed to the manufacturer with details of the number of cushions to be made. The factory does their calculations to determine the size of material to be used. These calculations help in minimizing crap.

A smooth and flat surface should be used when measurements are being taken. All old and damaged cushions should be emptied before taking the measurements. The design of the cushion is sketched to make it easier to assign figures. It ensures that the figures are not switched around which can lead to manufacturing errors.

Foam for cushions measurements sent to the factory should include the actual measurements before adjustments to avoid speculations. The decreases and increases should be as mean as possible. It compensates for natural adjustments that do not affect the size. These adjustments have very little impact on the price you are going to pay for the cushion. Making accurate measurements guarantees an elegant seat.
