Also known as a sour cherry or prunus cerasus, this fruit is used in many different recipes in the kitchen. The most favorite of all is without doubt the famous cherry pie. Many health experts are calling this tart cherries the next superfood and it does not take much to see why.

Cherries are used in preserves, in the fruit bowl and in jams. Usually they are best picked and eaten off the tree. The amarelle only has the red pigment in the skin and not the fruit, while the morello has the red pigment in the skin and throughout the fruit. For a boost before or after a workout you should have a handful of of this juicy fruit as well. You could even add them into a shake for a booster.

Dried cherries are available all year round, so you can buy them whenever you run out. One can also make use of them instead of the normal berry on top of your yogurt in the morning at breakfast to act as an anti inflammatory. This fruit can be used in just about any food and is very versatile.

Among all the super foods, this fruit has one of the highest antioxidants. They even surpass the health benefits of dark chocolate, orange juice, prunes and red wine. It is simply a magic little fruit. Research has shown great results when they have been used for the relief of pain in muscles during injury.

Many sports coaches will advise their athletes to use this fruit for muscular pain instead of the medicinal chemicals. This method of pain management is proving to be very useful and many more people are using them for this problem. Many endurance athletes and sport nutritionists are making use of these super fruits for this type of recovery program.

The cherry is a fabulous little fruit and boasts 19 times more vitamin A than blueberries or strawberries. Just a single serving provides 25% of the daily vitamin A needed per day in a regular diet. This means that you can have a good intake of this fruit every day and add value to your diet.

To make tart cherries last longer once off the tree, one should pick the stems off as well. This way they stay fresher for longer. They can be successfully frozen and then used at a later stage in just about all recipes in the kitchen. The most favorite of all the recipes is of course cherry pie. This is a great hit in almost all households.
